“Two Fathers”

RIP Miguel 2/?

Kensi was pulling onto the 405.  "You could have played along back there,“ Granger grumbled.

"Excuse me?”

“With the clerk, you could have played along when he suggested spicing things up in the bedroom.”

“We’re actually having this conversation?”

“You’re supposed to be an undercover operative.  I thought you could keep it together back there.  This is Los Angeles, I would not be the first man with some life experience to be near an attractive younger woman.”

“One, if we were undercover, I’d play it that way but we weren’t.  Two, your history with my father may have thrown off my reaction.”

Granger was quiet until they got to the 10.  "I liked you father.  He was a good man.“

"He was.”

“Good poker player, too.  Lousy at blackjack.”

“He played blackjack?  I know he played poker with his buddies at home, didn’t know he played blackjack.”

“When you’re sitting on a rooftop with a spotter with several hours to kill, one’s the dealer, the other plays blackjack.”

“Were you the spotter?”

“Maybe a couple of times.  Your father liked to hit on 17.  Never understood that.”

“Were you playing for money?”

“Blackjack, no.  Poker yes.”

“Then he was just having fun.  Probably playing the odds in his head.”

“There were no other players so card counting was useless.”

“True but what were the chances he’d get a card under four vs. five or better.  How many times could he beat the house?”

“So he was doing statistical analysis in his head on a roof in an undisclosed location.”

“If he was there as a sniper, he already figured out ‘x’ and whatever geometry was needed for the target.”

“Can you do that sort of math in your head?”

“I can but the newer equipment does a lot for whoever is shooting,” Kensi said.  "Can I ask you a question?“

"Since you can do the sniper math in your head, I doubt I can stop you.”

“Good point,” Kensi chuckled.  "Did my father ever mention his family?“

Granger was quiet for a minute.  "He loved being a Marine.  Based on what you were able to prove, he served his country with honor.  Don liked being with his fellow Marines.  But when the assignment was done, he always wanted to be in the first cohort back to the States.”

“Good to know.”

“While away, Don missed your mother, he missed you.  If we were flying home commercial, he was always at the duty-free shop at the airport looking for some perfume for your mother and some kid thing for you.  The units where your father worked weren’t the best for family life but he really made the extra effort.”

“Of course he did, he was a Marine.”

“And your father.  And I think he would have been proud of how you cleared his name.”

“You helped.”

“You got there faster than I expected.  You are your father’s daughter.”

Smiling, Kensi said, “I think that’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.”

“Yeah, well, don’t get used to it.”

This double line of baseball fans ends on the other side of Yankee Stadium, where the entrance to the Rotunda is located. On August 18, 1948, thousands of people from all walks of life stood on line during the day for the opportunity of passing by the body of Babe Ruth, who had died of cancer two days before, as it lay in state in the rotunda of the ballpark where he achieved his greatest fame.

Twenty year old sweethearts, Nick Ercoline and Bobbi Kelly were immortalized as the poster (flower) children of Woodstock.

This photograph of the couple wrapped in a tender embrace and a pink blanket, became the cover of 1970’s “Woodstock: Music from the Original Soundtrack and More.”

Married since 1971, Nick and Bobbi have two children, four grand children, still together and still living near the farm at Bethel Woods, in New York’s Catskills mountains.
